Bespoke process
A bespoke commission is the creation of a piece that is unique, designed to suit your individual needs and specifications. This is a collaborative journey in which I guide you through each stage, ensuring that the finished work reflects both your vision and the highest standards of craftsmanship. The process will scale according to the size and complexity of the project, and in most cases, staged payments are arranged along the way.
The bespoke process unfolds as follows:
Initial enquiry
You begin by sharing your idea—whether it’s a specific item in mind or simply a need you would like to address.Consultation
We then meet, either in person or online, to develop the brief. Here we discuss your requirements, aesthetic preferences, and any functional considerations that need to be resolved.Concept development
Based on the brief, I prepare initial design concepts. These typically include a combination of hand-drawn sketches, photographic references, and 3D models. A staged payment is often made at this point.Prototyping
From the chosen concept, I build a prototype—an early version that allows us to test proportions, style, and functionality before committing to the final piece. This stage may involve one or two iterations, with a further staged payment.Final build
Once the design is agreed, I source the materials—timber, hardware, and any other components—and begin the full build, guided by what we’ve refined through the prototype.Delivery and installation
When complete, your piece is carefully delivered and, where required, installed to ensure it sits perfectly in its intended space. At this stage, the final balance of payment is settled.
